It’s December, which means this Kindergarten Room Mom is reporting for duty. Mission: the perfect giveaways for my daughter and her friends at their holiday party. With 20 kids to buy for, I had to get creative and think of something with sparkle (since my daughter’s favorite color is glitter), that will also appeal to boys and have a festive touch… oh of course, some yummy treats included. I came up with this easy and cost effective “ornament bag” that I hope the kids will love!
What you will need:
-Sleeves of ornaments in all colors from the $1 store (they come 10-15 per sleeve, so it’s a steal!)
-Glittery pipe cleaners from the $1 store or Target $1 bins
-Plastic baggies
-Assorted candy (for my son’s preschool class I used Hershey kisses and hugs, and for my daughter’s class I used rainbow gumballs)
-Cardstock pack in assorted textures and colors (the stack I used is from Joann’s Fabrics and was in the sale bin for $4, it’s a pack of 75!)
-Hole puncher
-White posterboard
-Markers
-Embellishments (we used sparkling star stickers in holiday colors)
Step 1: Fill each baggie with a handful of candy — this is great for the kids to do at home, via assembly line.
Step 2: String each pipe cleaner through an ornament.
Step 3: Cut each piece of cardstock in half, mine was 4×6 size so it was rather large. If you find a smaller pack, you many not need to cut. Then cut your posterboard into squares that will fit on the cardstock pieces, leaving a big border all around for color and glue those on.
Step 4: Punch a hole in the lefthand corner of each piece of finished cardstock, string the pipe cleaner through and attach around the bags tightly, so the ornament is firmly on the bag. Cut off excess pipe cleaner when finished tying so that it looks pretty.
Step 5: Write the kids’ names on each white square or have you child do it (even better!)
Step 6: Add embellishments!
The finished product is colorful and has a real wow factor! For the price, you get a beautiful little take home gift for each child, and they will feel special hanging their new ornament on the tree at home. Plus, who doesn’t love glitter and candy? This gift has it all! Happy Holidays!
