Make it Monday- {Sew easy} Pillows!!

Are you in search of a quick home makeover? On a tight budget? Need something fresh but no too much work? Try some making some new pillows.

Pillows are an easy way to change the theme of a room or add a pop of color to your home. Here are two super easy pillow ideas that will take you less than an hour to make.

You will need: -fabric -trim (fringe, piping, ric rac, pom poms, whatever you like) -a button -polyfill or a pillow form

1. Start by measuring your pillow form, if you are using one. I am going to use polyfill for this pillow. Cut two squares of fabric measuring 8″x8″ each. Then cut a diagonal line through the center of each square.

Now you should have 4 triangles. DIY pillows1  DIY pillows2 DIY pillows3

2. Place your trim on the right edge of each triangle (that is the right side starting at the center to the outer edge). Sew the trim down to each edge on the right side of the fabric. Then with right sides together sew each triangle together to make a square. The center is the trickiest part so make sure you sew through your trim with the trim finishing on the inside to the center of the pillow. (Don’t worry if it isn’t perfect, you are going to cover up the center with a button.)

3. Press your square flat and attach your button to the center of the pillow. DIY pillows8 DIY pillows9

4. Cut your back fabric to the same size as the front. With right sides together sew around the pillow leaving a small hole at the bottom (in the center) of the pillow. The smaller the hole the better but it has to be big enough for you to stuff the pillow.

5. Clip the corners and flip the pillow sleeve right side out. Now you can begin stuffing! Stuff the pillow as tight as you like.

6. Now you can close the pillow using a hand stitch. Make sure to turn the raw edges in. DIY pillows14 DIY pillows16 DIY pillows15

Done, sew easy (pun intended).   If you want to add something fun to the pillow you can actually print graphics on fabric. Either use some printable fabric (found at the craft store) or you can iron on freezer paper to any cotton fabric you like. Stick it in your printer and print your favorite graphic onto the fabric.
