Elf on the Shelf: A Birthday Tradition-Countdown Calendar, Game and Birthday Chair Decoration Kit Review

0

We absolutely love our friends at the North Pole! For those of you not familiar with the wildly popular Scout Elves-where have you been hiding?? You might remember that last year, Elf on the Shelf started a new birthday tradition with an adorable cupcake costume for your favorite Scout Elf.  This year they are back with more products to add to the fun and the kind people from Elf on the Shelf recently had our two elves, Jack and Jill Sprinkles, deliver their newest creation-a Birthday Countdown Calendar and Game along with a Birthday Chair Decoration Kit.

·         The Elf on the Shelf®: Birthday Countdown and Game:

Each kit includes a display-ready felt wall hanging with a delightful, 28-pocket Advent-style calendar for counting down to the big day! Each of the 28 felt pockets may be filled with small trinkets or notes from parents or the family scout elf. Simply place the cupcake in the pocket that represents how many days are left until the birthday arrives, and each morning the child can move the cupcake ahead, one-by-one. The last pocket has a special star on it and represents the child’s birthday!

When the big day arrives, simply flip the board over to play the Birthday Game – a North Pole favorite! Children will wear a blindfold and take turns trying to place special birthday candles on the giant cupcake. These timeless activities will create magical family moments year after year for birthday boys and girls of all ages! (Ages 3+)

The countdown calendar is really cute.  It’s very well made and I believe it can withstand a lot of use.  I know my kiddos love to know how many days until a special day arrives-especially their birthday!  We love our elves Jack and Jill so this is a fun way to keep up with their tradition throughout the year.  I do however see a problem since my two younger kids have birthdays two weeks apart in February!  Ideally I think this would be a good thing to use for the younger crowd-maybe 8 and younger.  My oldest is almost 9 and wasn’t really that into it!

·         The Elf on the Shelf®: Birthday Chair Decoration Kit:

Nobody celebrates birthdays like a scout elf! As described in The Elf on the Shelf®: A Birthday Tradition, scout elves love to decorate special chairs for birthday girls and boys – and their creativity is limited only by their imagination (and the supplies they have to work with)! Each kit includes everything a scout elf needs to design a birthday seat that will delight any birthday girl or boy on their big day. The chair can be customized with the child’s name and age, if desired. It’s constructed of the finest material Santa could find and is durable enough to be used year after year. (Ages 3+)

 Contents are reusable and include:
  • Chair Cover with Pocket for The Elf on the Shelf® scout elf
  • Polka Dot Birthday Hat
  • Red Scalloped Felt Circle
  • White Alphabet Sticker Sheets (3 pieces)
  • Note Cards (8 pieces)
  • White Felt Numbers (11 pieces)
  • Red Nylon Strings (4 pieces)
  • Adhesive Hook and Loop Fasteners (15 pieces)
  • Colored Paper Garland Flags (14 pieces)
  • Instruction sheet

The chair decoration kit is also very well made and really cute.  Since I’m a little OCD on party themes and keeping everything with the theme this would be a great product to use on your child’s birthday.  The recommended age is 3+ but I could see using this even for a one year old.  The party hat that comes with it is GIANT!  But it would be a fun prop for photos as well.  We made our chair backing simple due to time constraints but you could really make it special by adding notes, treats in the pocket and even having your Scout Elf decorate it for your child the night before as a little surprise (as suggested by Elf on the Shelf.)

Thank you again to our friends at Elf on The Shelf for allowing us to review your wonderful products!  We look forward to more creative ideas from you!
