Christina and her two girls had the opportunity to participate in a really fun summer class at As You Wish at their Tempe Marketplace location. They are hosting themed classes and this summer’s theme is “Celebrating Children’s Literature.” They have partnered with the valley wide Phoenix Library Summer Reading Program, Changing Hands Bookstore and Bookman’s.
Each week a new book is selected as the theme for the class. Your child will create their masterpiece which they get to keep and learn a variety of techniques including pottery, canvas, glass and clay. (Pottery and canvas for children ages 5 and up, glass and clay for children ages 8 and up.)
At the class they attended, the amazing Ms. Liz showed the kids how to create a fingerprint tree plate based off Shel Silvertsein’s classic, The Giving Tree (which happens to be one of Christina’s favorite books!) Ms. Liz gave the kids step by step instructions that were easy to follow and understand. While the kids painted, Christina got a behind the scenes tour of how the studio glazes the pottery pieces and fires them in the kiln (very cool!).
The summer classes run for six weeks total, starting on Monday, June 9, 2014. You can select either a single class at the rate of $30.00 or you can sign up for a full week at a rate of $100.00, which is a fantastic value! The class times are from 9 am to 10:30 am and are offered at all six of the As You Wish locations across the valley (Ahwatukee, Deer Valley, Chandler, Desert Ridge, Mesa and Tempe.)
