There’s Nothing Wrong With Survival Mode

It’s 10am and I’m already counting down the minutes until nap time.  My house has turned into a circus act, and the director (me) has taken a leave.  I threw the white flag days ago, and just pray no visitors drop by unexpectedly.  Between me and my four kids, someone has been sick for probably a week, I honestly have lost track of the days.  We’ve been cooped up in the house for far too long, and my kids have watched more TV than I should probably admit.

By the time 4pm hits my kids have taken their second bath of the day because it keeps them occupied and at least they are not destroying the house more.  We are in full on survival mode, and guess what, there is nothing wrong with it.  I’ve come to terms with the fact that more days than not we are in survival mode around here.  Some days just keeping my kids fed and happy is a big feat.  Throw in a sick mom and there is almost no hope.

My house has been trashed, my kids have helped themselves to way too many juice boxes, and at this point the food is a free for all.  You want fruit snacks for breakfast? Go for it, whatever it takes to allow me a few more minutes of sitting on the couch, hoping to work up the energy to actually make you a decent meal.  Mom’s shouldn’t be allowed to get sick, but that’s another story for a different blog post.

Being a mom is hard.  It is so hard to not compare ourselves to others, especially with social media being so prevalent.  But from one circus mom to the other, do not feel bad for simply surviving.  Don’t feel bad if your kids eat too many fruit snacks, watch too much TV or you feel like they are simply running a muck.  Take it easy on yourself mamma, there is always tomorrow…. or next week.  Sometimes you have to put yourself first, the saying that  “nobody is happy if mom isn’t happy” is completely true.  So keep on keepin’ on. It will be okay.
