Whether it’s a place to play, a vacation, or a day trip! I wanted to round-up our top in-state picks for Arizona Spring Break with kids!

Day Trips:
Barbara’s pick: Colossal Cave, Vail/Tucson
I’m an Arizona native and I didn’t know about this hidden gem until recently! The classic cave guided tour lasts about 45 minutes and each participant gets their own lantern which kids think is super neat (even if you’ll end up holding it 15 minutes later).
Note that this is a school-aged kid day trip; children under 5 are not allowed on the tour.
Mom hack: cave tours require online reservations ahead of time.
Tiffany’s pick: Fossil Creek
Fossil Creek is a great day trip for Spring Break. Not only is the water and scenery beautiful, but you also get a workout getting to the waterfall. Taking our children and getting them down to the waterfall was very adventurous, 10/10 recommend it.
Make sure you bring plenty of water and snacks but don’t over pack because lugging bags will become difficult.
Most importantly park at the nearest parking lot that you can, the waterfall lot preferably. It fills up fast, so get your parking pass months in advance, or try the 3-day lottery system.
Laurel’s pick: Montezuma’s Castle
While her kids were initially disappointed that this castle didn’t have Anna and Elsa, they loved checking out these awesome rock carvings!
With this adventure being only a 2 hour drive from the valley, (in Camp Verde) it makes a great day trip for a variety of ages. These dwellings were originally produced by the Sinagua people, making for a great history lesson too!
It’s also very close to the Out of Africa Adventure Park and Kid’s Quest at Cliff Castle if you wanted to make it a longer stay! Get FREE admission with your America the Beautiful pass.
Overnight Stays
Kira’s pick: Strawberry
We love going to Strawberry every year because it’s an easy drive (only about 1.5-2 hours from the East Valley). It’s an adorable, accessible town- everything is conveniently located with lots of great accommodations to choose from! Amy’s pick: Rocky Rim Resort
Nestled at the top of the Mogollon Rim, Heber-Overgaard is the entry to the White Mountains and is just two hours from the East Valley, but a bit more budget-friendly than some of the other mountain towns.
These mini cabins are perfect for a quick getaway to relax and unplug with families; there’s an onsite playground for kids, plus each mini cabin has a fire pit for nightly s’mores. Cabin rentals start at $119/night, making it a cost-effective getaway! See our full review of our stay here.
Kim’s pick: Greer
We had so much fun spending our last Spring Break in Greer. We joked it wasn’t very “springy” but it sure was “breaky”! 
Greer is significantly colder than the valley and it can snow as late as May! There are places to sled and for the bid kids sunrise is only 8 miles away for a day at the slopes!
If you crave a slower pace and aren’t ready for the heat, Greer is a great spot for your Spring Break!
Cara’s pick: Flagstaff
I don’t like being in the middle of nowhere on vacation, and I love having lots to see and do. We love vacationing up in Flagstaff, with two toddler aged kids. I love that Flagstaff can be as eventful or relaxed as I want it to be.
With a million fun parks, lots of great local food and drinks, we enjoy spending a couple days throughout the year up in Flagstaff.
Americana Motor Lodge is a family-friendly, budget friendly hotel in Flagstaff. There’s a huge green space on the property, plus is near everything Flagstaff has to offer! Don’t skip Buffalo Park on your trip–it’s a great place to picnic, hike and hangout!
Lindsey’s pick: Marriott Star Pass in Tucson
I chose Marriott Starr Pass in Tucson, they have a family friendly vibe, lovely pool amenities, and yummy food! Kids eat dinner free with a paid adult and you can get a free 9 holes of golf per day. Plus, I can get the perfect cocktail while I watch my kiddos play!
With amazing views and a ton of fun places to visit in Tucson, our family loves staying here near the action!
Close to the Reid Park Zoo, Pima Air and Space Museum and more!
