I love having a mantle over our fireplace. It is a great place for holiday decorations, and most of the time my baby can’t reach them (YAY). This spring I decided to try to make a fun burlap banner to hang from the mantle.
Here is what you will need:
-burlap
-acrylic paint
-ribbon
-poms (bunny tails)
-freezer paper
-sewing machine
-ribbon, lace, or other Easter accessories (optional)
Burlap is really popular right now, but it can be a little tricky to work with. The weave makes it so it shifts and stretches. I have found the best way to avoid this issue is the use a zig zag stitch around the edges.
For this banner I began by cutting 8 triangles 5 inches wide out of the burlap. Then I sewed the zig zag around all the edges to keep the triangle shape and the burlap from fraying.

Next print the bunny silhouette on your computer. (I used a google image). This is your stencil. Using some freezer paper and an exact-o knife cut out the bunny shape 8x, 1 bunny for each triangle. Iron the freezer paper to the burlap triangles.
Using acrylic paint, paint the bunnies. Try to cover the entire bunny so it is almost completely solid. Let it dry completely.
Next use your hot glue or fabric glue, add the little bunny tails. I used poms.
Finally using ribbon, sew each triangle to the ribbon so that the triangles hang from the ribbon. Now you can add any little adornments you like including hot gluing ribbons, poms, or lace.
