Last Halloween, my then four-year-old daughter dragged her bag of candy through the front door. Twizzlers, Milky Way, Snickers, Nerds, Smarties, chocolate, gummies.. basically, a bag full of happiness. And stomach aches. Two thoughts popped into my head when I realized the size of her candy booty:
1. I don’t want my four-year-old to eat this much candy.
2. I’m going to eat all this candy.
Both were problems.

The Switch Witch
Think of the Switch Witch as Halloween’s version of the Tooth Fairy. I’ve never done this with my own kids, but friends have said this is a fun alternative! The gist of it is that the kids get to keep a bag of candy and the rest goes to the Switch Witch. The Switch Witch comes overnight for the rest of their candy and then leaves them a toy, gift card, money, etc. There’s a cute poem that goes with it also!
What to Do With The Leftover Candy
Here’s a few other ideas to get the candy out of the house if you still are staring down a larger than life pile of fun sized candy. For fellow moms of busy teens….I personally let my kids keep a huge jumbo gallon sized bag of candy, then donate the rest.
1. Office Break rooms – I’ll send some with my husband to work and from experience, it does help perk adults up.
2. If you can keep some set away for a while, use it in yummy Thanksgiving dessert recipes! – Take the chocolates and use it in a Snickers Apple Salad, make some Chocolate Peanut Butter 7 layer bars or some Payday Caramel Corn.
3. We will usually donate to the Elementary School that I work at as teachers do use candy for rewards/prize incentives throughout the year.
4. Donate it to troops overseas. Operation Shoebox accepts candy donations year round.
