It’s that time of year fellow football wives….
That time of year when most of us hardly see our husbands on Sundays…and Mondays…and oh snap, Thursdays…add a few hours throughout the week in the evenings as ‘research‘ has BEGUN.
I’m talking about:
As we commence upon this season in our lives, we can either sit back and watch the shenanigans happen…or we can do the next best thing. Join Em’!
Now let’s get down to business. If you’re not Jenny – from ‘The League’ you probably need some basics to help you get through this season.
Let’s get started.
WHAT IS FANTASY FOOTBALL?
Basically you own your own football team. You draft football players from real NFL teams to create your own imaginary ‘Dream Team’, and you compete weekly (head-to-head match ups) against everyone else’s ‘Dream Team’ in your league.
Sound boring? Yeah, I thought so too. Until I played…and now I look forward to it more than I look forward to my kids going back to school after winter break.
WHY PLAY FANTASY FOOTBALL?
HOW DO I PLAY FANTASY FOOTBALL?
1. GET IN A LEAGUE
2. DRAFT
You know when the new Life&Style Fall magazine comes out and you start researching the cute new styles for Fall? Drafting for Fantasy Football is similar.
Do some research and see what players are happenin’, and draft accordingly. Look online for the top ranked players or even go purchase a Fantasy Football magazine at the store. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
What positions do you draft for? Depends on the league you’re in. Ask your Commissioner (the main Daddio in charge) or just wait until he sends out the rules/lineup format. Here’s a common format to give you an idea on what players to draft for:
- 1 Quarterback (QB)
- 2 Running Backs (RB)
- 2 Wide Receivers (WR)
- 1 Flex RB/WR/TEs (RB/WR/TE)
- 1 Tight End (TE)
- 1 Kicker (K)
- 1 Team Defense/Special Teams (D/ST)
- 6 Bench (BN)
3. COMPETE
Your goal is to score as many points as possible via the players you decide to play every week. Your WR (short for Wide Receiver) just scored a touchdown? Several points for you my darling!
Your QB (Quarterback) aka Aaron Rodgers (so dreamy), Russell Wilson (man candy), and let’s not forget our favorite local QB Carson Palmer (Go Cards!) well, he just threw an interception? Sorry girlfriend, but you just lost a few points.
When your players perform well (score–>throw a touchdown, score a touchdown, kick a field goal, gain yardage) you get points.
When they do things like fumble or throw an interception, you lose points. Get the gist? That’s why drafting is soo important! You don’t want a dud of a QB, or a RB that’s notorious for fumbling. Just go by the ‘rankings’ if you don’t know which players to draft!
