The Fractured Prune — Doughnut Decadence!

My husband loves doughnuts. Let me rephrase….if he could marry a doughnut, I’d be ancient history. So when The Fractured Prune opened this spring in Chandler, I knew we had to make a trip. Conveniently located  on the corner of Ray and Rural Roads, this quaint shop boasts big flavor and a huge variety that will make you dizzy with delight!

The Maryland based chain got it’s quirky name from Prunella Shriek, a county ping-pong champion from the late 1800s who was nicknamed “Fractured Prunella.”  My kids and their friends had fun displaying their doughnut creations by the cute wall with the company name that they were so tickled by!

When we stopped in to watch my husband salivate, er, I mean to try some doughnuts on a Sunday morning, it was busy but we quickly found a table. The seating inside is scarce, but outside there is a generous patio. You pick up a paper menu and go to work. I say work, because it was overwhelming to pick just one tasty treat. With over 15 glazes and 20 toppings, the possibilities are endless. Oh, and for the less creative patron, there are some house favorites, like the OC, which one of my dining companions chose — cinnamon and sugar with a honey glaze. He said it was the best cake doughnut he’d ever tried.

The doughnuts came piping hot off the conveyor belt and were hand dipped before being placed in a decorative green and purple box for us to enjoy. They were colorful and full of flavor — light and airy inside and crisp and buttery outside. Our favorites included: banana glaze with mini chocolate chips, the Peppermint Patty (mint glaze and chocolate chips), the S’More (’nuff said) and my hubby’s personal favorite; maple glaze with fresh bacon crumbles.  We couldn’t go wrong at just $1.89 per doughnut and seemed to have beaten the breakfast crowd by visiting at 10 a.m., (hours begin at 6 a.m.)

Between the delectable menu and delightful staff, my family will definitely visit again soon! In fact, I think it will be hard to petition for breakfast out anywhere else now that my husband has found The Fractured Prune.
