Harkins Theatres PlayCenter

Harkins PlayCenter

I love going to the movies!  In the theatre, sitting in the dark next to strangers, and eating popcorn that no matter how hard you try, you will never be able to recreate at home.  For me, watching a movie in a movie theatre on the big screen is how it should be watched.  But, as any parent knows, once you have kids, your time is valuable and a trip to the movies often ends up at the bottom of the list.

Not only that, but what about the money?  By the time you pay for a babysitter, go to dinner and a movie, you’ve coughed up a small fortune.  That is unless you go to a Harkins Theatre.  With several locations in the East Valley there is sure to be one in your neighborhood.

We recently discovered the Harkins Theatres PlayCenter.  While we moms and dads are enjoying a kid-inappropriate movie, we can relax knowing our little ones are taken care of just a few feet away.  My husband and I have seen the PlayCenter and not really thought twice about it.  It was my daughter who saw the kids playing and asked if she could go there.  I’m sorry begged if she could go there.

I have to say, it was an awesome experience for all involved.  My daughter loved it!  She did a cute craft, she got to pick the DVD she watched {it was “Rio”} and she played on the computer.  Her one complaint was that we were gone too long {we chose to see an almost three hour movie.}  She’s been asking to go back ever since, so I guess it wasn’t too traumatizing.

The staff was super friendly and helpful and they interacted well with the children.  A few weeks later, my daughter also got a postcard in the mail thanking her for visiting the PlayCenter.  I thought it was a nice touch and she enjoyed getting something addressed to her.  Overall, it was a great experience and we’re looking forward to using the PlayCenter again.

Here’s a guide to the Harkins Theatre PlayCenter:

  • It’s for kids ages 3 – 8 {they must be potty trained}
  • Reservations are recommended, but if you go during a down time, you should be able to get in
  • It’s only $6 per child!  What a bargain!
  • Kids get complimentary popcorn and water
  • They can play games, do crafts, watch a DVD, or play on the computer
  • Parents get a beeper and the PlayCenter knows what theatre they are in in case there are any problems.

Check the Harkins Theatres link here for PlayCenter operational hours, phone numbers to make a reservation, or for more information.  Hopefully now we will all get out to the movies more!  Especially since the summer is coming and they have really good air-conditioning.  And popcorn.  And cold drinks.  And candy…
