Ever since I quit my 9-5 and started my own business, I am constantly getting asked how I got started working from home.
Like anything else, it takes time and dedication.
As a single mom, without a college degree, I found myself constantly feeling like I was trading my time for money. Taking whichever job paid me the most and constantly job hopping.
Most nights were rushed and chaotic. I would get off of work at 6 pm, then I would have to hurry to pick up my daughter before after school care closed. Next we’d come home, make dinner, do homework, clean up, take baths, read a book, and then it would be bedtime.
I had to work full time in order to pay my bills and provide for my daughter, which sometimes meant working late or even on weekends.
I was all my daughter had and at the time, she was spending more hours awake with the staff at her school than with me. But what was I supposed to do without anyone to help, stand in, or pick up the slack while I was working?
Family is so important and quality time is a top priority for me. So, this didn’t sit well with me. I knew there had to be a better way.
I’d always been intrigued by owning my own business and being my own boss. My dad even runs his own business in Showlow, AZ.
One day, actually while unemployed and dealing with some rather serious health issues; I came across a post on Instagram.
The post was a man wearing an orange hat, speaking to a large crowd at a live event.
Having worked live events in the past, I was instantly drawn to this post and began looking into it further.
I quickly learned this man was the owner of a local “internet marketing college.” The company claimed to teach you everything about making money online, with heavy focus on ecommerce.
I thought, “was this it?”
Upon further investigation, I saw the company is local and based right out of Scottsdale!
I was so excited and felt like this was my chance to make something happen.
I dove all in.
I quickly began taking advantage of all of the free training the company had to offer, which was almost overwhelming at first, but so helpful.
I was learning so much, so quickly, and in a variety of fields. Shopify, SEO, FB ads, lead generation, email marketing, social media management, dropshipping, and more!
I built, managed, and sold several Shopify stores before becoming a Virtual Assistant to fully utilize my skills.
I quit my 9-5 despite my coaches telling me not to. I wanted to be able to give this my full attention. I knew I was on the right track and things began to fall into place.
Through being a VA and having a variety of clients I was able to learn what I enjoyed and what I didn’t. Like they always say” focus on what you love and delegate the rest.”
That’s what I did…to an extent. I wasn’t to the point where I needed to delegate, but I certainly could pick and choose clients I wanted to work with.
I briefly did social media management, helping brands and companies build and grow their social media presence.
I then decided to become a life coach to be able to help people in a more meaningful way.
This is where I realized my passion and true calling.
It has now been three years and I have a successful coaching business helping people around the world build their businesses and crush their goals with intention.
All while working from home.
This provides me with the freedom and flexibility I so desperately desired. Giving me all the time I could ever want with my daughter. No more rushed dinners and quick bedtime stories. Now we can enjoy an afternoon hike, grab lunch, go shopping, and make dinner together.
The journey to become self employed wasn’t always easy. There were a lot of late nights and early mornings. High highs and low lows. Tons of tears and lots of laughs. But in the end, it was more than worth it.
Family is everything to me.
