MOMentum Retreat Review: A Weekend to Recharge for Working Moms

0

We’re reviewing MOMentum’s Working Moms Retreat today.

As a working mom and wife, I feel like I am constantly failing someone. There is little time in each day to give myself what I need to be present for everyone and everything that needs my attention.

I feel like I have lost a sense of who I am.

Do you ever feel this way?

When presented with the opportunity to attend inaugural Momentum Retreat lead by founder Chelsie Bruggerman, I almost jumped at the chance.  Not because I wanted to get away from my family, but I needed the time to recharge, make some friends, and come back the best version of myself for everyone.

If you’re wanting support in trying to reach your career goals while also being the best mom and wife you can be, keep reading, and mark your calendar for May 16-18, 2025, for the next retreat. Book before May 1 and get $150 off!

And stay tuned for more events and retreats hosted by Momentum.

XO,

Amanda

Lead-up to the weekend: Momentum Retreat Preparations

Prior to our outing in Show Low, Chelsie (the owner of Momentum) emailed each attendee a few different times:

24 days out she had us respond with our wants and needs from our weekend away (example- an hour alone every day). Then she asked us to tell her about our preferences for bedtime, what we like to eat, what would help us be more comfortable, etc.

At 8 days out, she sent us a list of what we needed to bring, what to expect from the weekend, her phone number, and more. As a planner, this helped ease my mind going into a town I had never been to with other moms I hadn’t met before.

One day before, she let us know how many moms were coming and how she knew them.  This was to help us all understand that while we may not know each other now, we will be deeply connected by the end of the weekend. We also received a few last-minute details and helped aid in our excitement to get away.

Momentum Retreat Day 1

We all got there after working on a Friday. Driving to Show Low gave us the chance to decompress after a long week of working, while also enjoying some northeastern, AZ scenery.

Upon arrival, we sat around getting to know one another. We ate a lovely dinner made by one of the attendees who is a dietician (Building Blocks Nutrition).

We talked about our kids, our jobs, and the reason why we were there- and it felt safe. After sitting down, I didn’t have a moment where I felt left out or that no one liked me.  I started to realize I was gaining another mom tribe that was in the same stages of life I was in. And it was REFRESHING.

Momentum Retreat Day 2

We got to sleep in! Well, as much as any mom can. My circadian rhythm woke me up at 6 a.m. However, we had until 10 a.m. to do whatever brought us joy- hiking, sitting outside and drinking coffee in silence, reading a book, or binging a TV show we hadn’t yet watched.

Mid-morning we did a values workshop. In this, we reviewed a list of words that resonated with us. We paired up as we discussed a few different prompts that helped our partner identify what they believed our values were.

This then helped us all to narrow that list down to our top three.  Spoiler alert- I value a fulfilling life, growth, and connection.

Then we linked our values to a person or character we knew; and I cannot explain how empowering this was.

With this in mind, we picked our masks and decorated them in a way we felt conveyed this character and our values.

Afterwards we had another three or so hours of free time. I took this time to take a much-needed nap.

Afterwards, we had another workshop where we built out our values- which included our goals and our achievements thus far. We also spent time discussing our “hard.” Which was the most powerful moment of the entire retreat for us. After each one of us explained what ours currently is, we went around praising one another with “you are ____” statements.

Hearing other moms (people you barely know) tell you positive/affirming words about yourself is something you will carry with you forever.

Then we went to dinner, went out for drinks, and just spent more time connecting and telling each other our stories.

Momentum Retreat Day 3

This day didn’t have anything planned for us. However, it was time to wake up slowly, take advantage of the quiet, reflect on the weekend, and eventually go back home.

We all joined MarcoPolo, created a group chat, and still talk to one another often. It is incredibly encouraging to have this group of ladies in my corner.

Biggest Takeaways from Momentum Working Mom Retreat:

I know myself more.

In the chaos of life, it is easy to lose yourself. This retreat gave me the time to find me again.  I learned more about who I am, what I desire, and who I want to be.

I also made new friends who understand the chapter of life I am in.  And while we may not all value the same things, we can come together, share our hard whenever we want, and be there to be each other’s cheerleader.

And all of this helps me to show up better for myself, my husband, and my kids.

When is the next Momentum Retreat?

Registration is open for the next retreat, hosted in Show Low on May 16-18, 2025. Pricing includes your two night stay, groceries, workshops and dinner at the Torreon club house.

Momentum also offers one-on-one coaching’s, workplace trainings, and a wonderful network of other working moms.
