ICYMI: Aperol spritzes, NICU stays and other table topics at October’s MNO

0

Moms Night Out is our favorite day of the month for good reason— we meet so many incredible moms at each event!

October’s MNO didn’t disappoint—we gathered for a midweek happy hour at Thirsty Lion Gastropub at San Tan Village to connect over cocktails and take a few hours just for ourselves.

Fourteen local moms, from homeschoolers to working moms, from San Tan Valley to Tempe, joined us in community and we just had the best time laughing and commiserating about universal motherhood truths as well as having a great laundry debate—exciting mom chats that everyone has had, right?!

First things first, I introduced one mom to an Aperol Spritz and I’m pretty sure it rocked her world. I ordered a grapefruit and basil martini and it was the perfect fall transition drink that came with a sugared rim and a basil leaf floating on top of the drink and it gave me such a celebratory feeling to be out past bedtime, sipping on a martini with new friends, it was lifegiving.

Anyways, over a lovely appetizer spread from Thirsty Lion that touted the world’s largest soft pretzels and the tastiest way of cooking cauliflower any of us had ever tasted and the cheesiest spinach artichoke dip in all of Gilbert, we were touched with just how welcoming our local mom community can be.

We opened up about NICU stays (three out of five at my table had been part of that mom club that nobody hopes to be part of), and sometimes it just feels so good to share stories with others who have gone through similar experiences to feel heard, seen and understood.

A few of us also agreed on our appreciation for home cooked meals versus DoorDash in times of meal trains, leaning more towards quick service meals than homemade muffins, and it was lovely to laugh about meal train mishaps with other moms who’ve gone through similar experiences.

There was one table who happened to all be just boy moms (from 18 months to 8 years old) and it was so fun to laugh about what raising wildlife is really like, ha! Like nobody there at our table had any daughters—it was too funny!

We are so thankful to everyone who came and created community, if you’re still on the hunt for your mom tribe, please join us at an upcoming event! We keep these small intentionally to ensure a welcoming experience to actually meet other moms—we promise, you don’t need to bring a friend, you’ll leave with new ones!

We’re also so glad to have our swag bag partners hook us up with sweet gifts for everyone who attended.

Here’s a cheat sheet of who was in the swag bags:

  • Jigsaw Health: We all need to be aware of electrolytes in the Arziona summers—their supplements are tasty and help us keep on top of these essentials for our bodies
  • Locally written children’s book Benny Lost His Blurgle by Patrick and Ariel Kaiser
  • Learning Rx: A Chandler-based brain training center for both kids and adults!
  • WHI Arizona: Providing maternal & family mental healthcare team specializing in therapy & counseling from prenatal through parenthood.
  • Blissful Organizing: A new personal organization service based in Chandler, Arizona

A few moms also left with more than just swag bags when they won our raffles! One mama won passes to the i.d.e.a Museum in downtown Mesa and the ‘dino museum’ a few blocks away, and one of our favorites. Another mom left with a gift bag from the Experience Van Gogh exhibit that’s open in Old Town Scottsdale now through November 2021.
