First Fridays in Phoenix

FirstFriday

Are you looking for something fun and new to do for date night? Have you been to downtown Phoenix for First Friday yet? If you haven’t been, there’s no time like next week to make your first trip. First Friday is a chance for you to check out the latest up and coming artists as well as enjoy free entertainment. There are free self guided tours of various art galleries, free shuttles to get you around town, free entrance to the Phoenix Museum of Art as well as the Arizona Science Center.

I recommend either parking at the Phoenix Art museum or riding the light rail into downtown to avoid parking problems. The art museum is open to the public for free during First Friday from 6-10 pm. Next week, on September 6th, they will have a live salsa band and salsa tastings from local valley restaurants. After enjoying the museum you can hop on a free shuttle bus to venture into the city.
The shuttle stops at various shops and galleries throughout Phoenix. Roosevelt Row is a popular destination featuring the A.R.T.S. Market where you can find arts, crafts, and food. The A.R.T.S. Market is free to the public and open from 6-11 pm rain or shine. Also, my friend’s sister has an art piece that depicts the red rock of Sedona that will be at The Nash. Be sure to stop by and check it out.

While downtown make sure you stop by the Arizona Science Center for Adult’s Night Out. Open from 5:30-9:00 pm the science center is free to everyone 18 and older. Adults can enjoy all the fun hands on activities without worrying about little kids getting in the way. You can lie down on a bed of nails, morph your face in the digital world, or learn how poop can turn into power (you know you’re curious).

With so much going on, you may just find yourself wanting to go back every month! Have you been to First Friday? Do you have any additional recommendations or suggestions for someone who hasn’t been? Please share! Click here for additional information such as a map of the shuttle stops.

The Brett Saks Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, hopes  to make our Arizona communities safer for bicyclists by teaching adults and children about road safety and mutual respect between drivers and cyclists in fun and engaging ways. We are “Shifting Gears to Saves Lives,” as more than 600 cyclists are lost each year to car-bike accidents. Learn more at gearupaz.org.
