Exploring Colorado: 8 Reasons to Plan a Family Trip to the Gaylord Rockies

0

We closed out our summer adventures with a bang—a stay at the Gaylord Rockies just minutes from the Denver airport. The Gaylord Rockies is an 85-acre resort that boasts an incredible day spa for moms, exciting programming for kids, delicious food and ample opportunities to relax, unwind and connect with your family. Did I mention a crazy cool resort pool (with both indoor and outdoor swimming experiences)?!

I’m sharing a peek into our recent stay at the Gaylord, along with all the reasons you need to experience this gem for yourself! More below!

XO,

Amy

It’s 10 minutes from Denver International Airport

After a flight, the last thing I want to do (and force my toddler to do) is sit more to drive to our final destination. Gaylord Rockies is just 10 minutes away from the airport which made for an easier travel day. We landed at noon and were at the resort by 1 p.m. (and our room was ready)! It felt like we were able to jump right into vacation without much effort.

Delicious dining options from grab ‘n’ go to gourmet

There are more than six dining options on-property, from a little market with endless breakfast and lunch options to a steakhouse. Plus, our room had a fridge as well, which we appreciate since Maverick has some digestive issues and we have to balance ‘home foods’ and restaurant meals.

The sports bar themed restaurant had an epic TV wall that is sure to wow even the biggest sports fan (which I am not, ha). One night, we got takeout from the Italian restaurant and took it to the meadow to enjoy the Denver summer weather even longer.

Kid-focused programming makes days on-property exciting

From themed scavenger hunts, to a poolside pirate show, guided painting classes and animal encounters, the Gaylord Rockies made it easy to fill multiple days with new adventures without leaving the property. Upon check-in, they provide a schedule of activities and programs for the week, each day offers something different. They also offer morning fitness classes that are family friendly for older kids. (I participated in the sunrise yoga class each morning.)

The day spa left me feeling like a new mom

I’m normally not a day spa type gal on a family vacation, but after co-sleeping for eight nights in a hospital bed with Maverick during his recent children’s hospital visit, my back was wrecked.

Relâche Spa & Salon is just steps from the property’s waterpark, but feels miles away. Upon check-in for my treatment I received a flute of champagne, the coziest robe I’ve ever had and a tour of the spa. (It’s that impressive, there’s a tour!)

If you have the opportunity, you could easily spend half a day here with all the spa amenities included when you book a treatment. My favorite was the relaxation room: think of mini spa-like cabanas in a cozy room with a larger-than-life fireplace that inspires you to pause and take a moment for yourself.

The majority of guests also have kids in tow

You know the feeling when you’re the minority having your kids with you and you feel like you spend the whole time worrying they’re ruining the other guests meal/vacation/experience? That literally won’t happen at the Gaylord Rockies, because everyone has kids!

Maverick was able to find new friends to play with at every turn, and it just took the stress off me from worrying if we were too loud, too rambunctious, because everyone was on the same page!

The decor itself is a Rocky Mountain adventure

Everything at the Gaylord Rockies, from cascading waterfalls over boulders and local nature artwork and even elevators designed to look like old mine shafts, celebrates Colorado’s Western spirit and outdoorsmanship.

In the atrium, there’s a retired train caboose (which Mav loved seeing daily), a bridge over a ‘creek’ and other details that make you feel like you’re really in the Rockies.

In our hotel room, fun details celebrating Colorado include aspen tree-inspired carpets, lumberjack plaid print pillows and hiking and camping maps in the closets.

The indoor/outdoor water park adventures are endless

Being from Arizona, I feel like it’s hard to impress us with water parks and resort pools because we’re lucky to have so many gems in our home state, but the Gaylord Rockies really delivers a unique experience!

Indoor and outdoor water slides are just the beginning. There’s a larger-than-life lazy river (spoiler alert mama, your hair will get wet on the lazy river), a splash pad with a light show, a zero-depth entry for tots and more.

Plus, you know we love cabanas for pool days with tots, and the cabanas were spacious and the service was exceptional.

The meadow

Overlooking the city of Denver skyline and framed by the Rocky Mountains, we loved spending time in the outdoor grassy meadow in the late afternoon to soak up sunshine, have a happy hour cocktail and watch Maverick chase bunnies. It felt like the most perfect setting to savor the last days of summer.
