It’s that time of year again! Time to trade in the pool bags for the backpacks and swim suits for new school clothes. Just because it’s the end of summer vacation doesn’t mean that summer is over. In fact, we still have a quite a while before the temperature cools down. Whether school is already in session (ahem…Chandler) or is about to begin doesn’t mean that you can’t take advantage of Arizona’s fun summer activities. If you haven’t already checked the following off your summer bucket list then it’s not too late!!
Take a flashlight tour at the Desert Botanical Gardens. Now through Aug 31 on Thursday and Saturday nights from 7-9 pm you can enjoy the botanical gardens at night time. It’s the perfect outing for the whole family. They have stations set up with all sorts of live creatures on display like spiders and snakes. You can look for frogs in the pond or enjoy the city lights from the top of the hill. Don’t forget your flashlights!! Check the website for pricing and additional information.
Meet up with friends for some after school fun at the pool. Mesquite Groves Pool in Chandler is open Monday through Friday from 4-7 pm. Your older kids can enjoy the slides and the younger ones can enjoy the play structure. Maybe you can even enjoy some time on the lazy river. Check the website for additional hours of operation and pricing.
Take the family out to the ball game. The Arizona Diamondbacks have lots of home games this month so if you haven’t been to a game yet it’s not too late. A baseball game is a sure way to make some fun memories with your little ones.
If you’re not in the mood to head out then keep the party at home with a backyard movie night. Do you or someone you know have access to a projector? Do you have a white sheet? Do your kids have a favorite movie? Then that’s all you need for a fun night outdoors. Invite your friends, invite your kid’s friends and don’t forget the snacks!
Are you worried that the daily routine of school lunches and weeknight meals is already getting tiresome? If yes, then it’s the perfect time to check out the local food trucks. On Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings you can find the food trucks in Gilbert. I’m sure you can find something delicious to eat for everyone in the family.
Have you enjoyed any of these activities? Do you have any other suggestions for the rest of us? We’d love to hear what you think!
