Must enter the park from 48th Street, via Chandler Boulevard. No access off of Pecos Parkway.
A 66-acre regional park with lit soccer, football and multipurpose athletic fields, skate plaza, 1.5 acre off-leash activity area for dogs, large playground with water play area, swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, ramadas, sand and concrete volleyball courts. A .9-mile paved path circles the playing fields.

Butterfly Wonderland
Learn about butterfly metamorphoses and interact with thousands of free-flying butterflies in this lush rain-forest atrium. Butterfly Wonderland offers three birthday-party packages with either a butterflies or bugs theme. They include all-day admission (including the 3-D theater) for up to 15 children and three adults, a decorated party room and a fresh-fruit platter, birthday cake or cupcakes. This fortress-like building in downtown Phoenix offers hours of fun and discovery for kids. The science center’s birthday-party packages include free admission for 20-30 guests, a decorated party room and light refreshments or pizza. South Mountain became a City of Phoenix park in 1924. Many citizens including Carl Hayden bought 13,000 acres from the Federal Government for $17,000. In 1935 the National Park Service developed a master plan for the park that included riding and hiking trails, picnic areas and overlooks.
The highest point on South Mountain is Mount Suppoa which reaches 2,690 feet. It is not accessible to the public. Dobbin Lookout which is 2,330 feet high is the highest point accessible by trail.

This hands-on kids museum features the Schuff-Perini Climber, a multistory play structure, and is aimed at kids 10 or younger. Children can ride tricycles through a waterless car wash; build forts, play in a pint-size supermarket and run through Noodle Forest.
